You will not find cars on the island of Lamu. The streets are really like walking paths and are much to narrow for cars to drive through. We did not even see scooters or motor bikes, which I appreciated due to the constant noise they can make. It is said that there are only 2 cars on the island, one for the mayor and one used as an ambulance.
There are a several camels used for transporting people and goods as well as tourists. The camels were purchased by Lamu Marine Conservation Trust which works with sea turtle education and protection.
